Toronto Hydro Looking to Change Distribution Rates

November 15, 2018

You may be aware, the Ontario Energy Board regulates Ontario’s energy sector, and is responsible for setting distribution rates for local utilities.

Toronto Hydro has applied to the OEB to change its distribution rates effective January 1, 2020. As part of the OEB review of this application, they want to hear from their customers and ensure that they have an opportunity to have their say. Towards that end, a series of community meetings throughout the city, begin November 22. Five of the six meetings will be in-person as well as livestreamed. The sixth will be a webinar. Dates, times and locations follow below, and each event linked for easy registration on Eventbrite.

Community meetings are held so consumers can have an opportunity to:

  • speak with utility representatives directly and ask why they want the change they’re proposing
  • ask questions about process and find out how to get involved
  • give comments about the application, verbally or in writing, which are given to the decision-makers to consider as part of the hearings process

Consumers are also welcome to make a presentation if they like. Notes about the questions and comments made at the meetings are kept. A report is prepared so the decision-makers at the Ontario Energy Board are aware of all the concerns that utility customers raise about an application – the very people who may be affected by the changes their utility is requesting.

This short whiteboard video explains what happens at a typical OEB meeting.

Toronto Hydro customers will receive a copy of the attached meeting notice in their bill. Please feel free to share and/or post. The meeting registration page also makes sharing via social media quick and easy.

Registration is not required, but appreciated.
