Look Up … Way Way Up

August 11, 2020

There are numerous proposals for developments along Eglinton Avenue, at this time closer to Yonge Street than Avenue Road and west toward Chaplin.

  1. 36 Eglinton Avenue West (northeast corner of Eglinton and Duplex) – had been proposed at 39 storeys, the developer has now submitted a proposal to build 65 storeys!  Councillor Colle refers to this as the Godzilla Proposal.  If the developer is permitted to build to this soaring height, it would cast a shadow as far west as Eglinton Park.  You can read more about this proposal here.
  2. 50/50 – 90 Eglinton West – 2 towers, 32 and 26 storeys.
  3. Yonge and Roselawn – Former Bank of Montreal Building and south to include the location of the Best Byu store – 2 buildings, 27 and 23 storeys.

And, if that is not enough, though just outside ARECA’s border, 2500 Yonge Street (old Capitol Theatre), 14 storeys has been approved and thee City has recovered ownership of the current Green P lot in behind.  While at 90 Eglinton East, planning is underway for a 52 storey tower.

With this potential massive influx of people in the area, it leaves one wondering about the infrastructure, services, schools, public transportation and the new narrower Eglinton Avenue.
