The city has released a Purpose Statement and Service Commitment and a Committee of Adjustment Participation Handbook .

It is a framework that provides a clear description of the Committee’s role and outlines what applicants, residents and community members can expect when participating in a Committee of Adjustment hearing.

In 2024, the City conducted public engagement on a draft version of this document, including an online survey and discussions at the annual Committee of Adjustment Stakeholder Meeting. Nearly 400 participants provided feedback. This input identified where the process could be clearer and where additional guidance would be helpful for those preparing to participate in a hearing. The Purpose Statement and Service Commitment reflect this feedback and present the information in a more direct and accessible way.

The City has also recently released the Committee of Adjustment Participation Handbook, offering a step-by-step overview of how hearings work and how to prepare. The Handbook is intended to support applicants, residents and organizations who wish to participate in the process with a better understanding of what to expect.
