Yonge-Eglinton Centre

FEBRUARY 2/2010 ... Councillor Stintz is hosting an "Open Hose" to view RioCan's current application to the City to close in the public open space at the northwest corner of Yonge and Eglinton.
It will be held at the North Toronto Community Centre from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.  See the notice here.

This is one of Toronto's busiest intersections and has been identified for intensification.  ARECA has been involved with proposals for the North-west corner.

In 2004, the Yonge-Eglinton Centre was owned by Greenwin and they had proposed enclosing the "public open space*" in what was referred to as the Crystal Palace.  (*The public open space was guaranteed as part of the original approval from the City for the Yonge-Eglinton Centre.)

In 2004, City Councillor Karen Stintz, was opposed to the proposal as were many residents in ARECA.  No change occurred.

Rio-Can now owns the property and again there is a proposal to enclose the public open space.

The Yonge-Eglinton Focused Review (Jan. 09) is found here.

A rezoning application has been submitted.
"This application proposes to amend the existing site specific Zoning By-law for 2300 Yonge Street, 411 Duplex Avenue and 33 Orchard View Boulevard to permit a three storey addition to the existing retail concourse at grade and 5 and 7 storey additions to the existing office towers."

The rezoning application is here.
Notice of June 2009 Community Consultation meeting is here.
This on-going proposal is being monitored closely by ARECA and will be a key focus at the ARECA AGM, November 9th.
